Sapphire First Aid Training, available courses.

Below is a description of all of the accredited courses we run. We can also provide bespoke training sessions depending on your particular needs.

All courses can be run over 1 to 3 days or, if required, as a course run over a number of weeks.

First Person on Scene Intermediate – 5 Day (BTEC Level 2)

If you are looking for work in the event medicine arena, a Security Industry Authority approved Close Protection Officer or starting on the road to a career in medical services then this course is highly recommended (and a minimum requirement for SIA Close Protection work). You will learn and gain a certificate in First Aid at Work and Defibrillation. However, this is not all of the subject matter. You will also learn:

  • Assisting the Paramedic
  • Oxygen Therapy
  • Pre-hospital environment
  • Manual and Automatic Blood Pressure Monitoring
  • Use of Airways
  • Use of a Bag Valve and Mask
  • Skeletal Stabilisation

There are also optional units available in:

  • Motorcycle Helmet Removal
  • Paediatric First Aid

Qualification: Edexcel certificate

Valid: 3 Years

Cost:    – £450 + VAT per candidate

First Aid at Work – 3 Day (Ofqual Level 3)

This is the highest level of competence required by the HSE and is suitable for larger or high risk companies.  This course is ideal for people that wish to upgrade their skills to become a “full” First Aider, however, staff need no prior First Aid knowledge to complete this course. Competences assessed in this course are:

  • Incident Management
  • Primary and Secondary Assessment
  • Resuscitation
  • Choking
  • Seizures
  • External Wound Control
  • Treatment of Shock
  • Spinal Injury
  • Fractures and Dislocation
  • Heart Attack and Angina
  • Stroke

First Aid at Work Refresher – 2 Day

This is a requalification course for the full three day FAW. Skills are updated and tested so that another certificate can be issued for another three years. Only those with a current, full FAW certificate may attend, this will have to be proven before the course commences.

Qualification: Ofqual approved Re-Certification

Valid: 3 Years

Individual Cost: £160 + VAT

Emergency First Aid at Work – 1 Day (Ofqual Level 2)

This course is an ideal for those that want their first experience of First Aid or those that have been identified as suitable to work as a company First Aider. The course complies with all aspects of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. The course consists of topics such as:

  • What to do in an Emergency
  • Legislation
  • Primary Survey
  • Secondary Survey
  • Incident Management
  • Respiratory System
  • Disorders of Circulation
  • Disorders of Consciousness
  • Wounds and Bleeding
  • Epilepsy

Valid: 3 Years

CPR & AED (Defibrillation) – 1 Day (Ofqual Level 2)

The ideal course for those that have a defibrillator on site and want to know how and when to use it safely. Competence will be measured on skills in CPR, Choking and in the use of an AED (defibrillator).

Paediatric First Aid – Unit 1 – 1 Day

An ideal course for new parents or those looking to start out on the road to a qualification in Childcare. A certificate of attendance is issued on successful completion of the day. Course content includes:

  • Primary and Secondary Assessment
  • Resuscitation and treatment of Seizures
  • Choking
  • Wounds and Bleeding
  • Anaphylaxis

Paediatric First Aid – Unit 2 – 1 Day (Ofqual Level 2)

Following on from Unit 1, this unit allows the candidate to complete the Level 2 certificate in Paediatric First Aid. To take part in unit 2 all candidates must show that they have completed unit 1 within the previous three years.The unit includes the following subjects:

  • Bone, Joints and Muscle injuries
  • Head and Spinal injuries
  • Foreign body and eye injuries
  • Effects of Heat and Cold
  • Burns and Scalds

Valid: 3 Years

Individual Cost: £45 + VAT

Paediatric First Aid – Units 1 & 2 – 2 Day (Ofqual Level 2)

This is a combination of both of the above courses leading to the award of the Level 2 qualification over two days. Necessary for all staff working with Children and infants.

Individual Cost: £80 + VAT

Activity First Aid – 2 Day – (Ofqual Level 2)

This course is a two day, two unit qualification. It is ideal for sports coaches and teachers. Units 1 and 2 can be separated by up to three years, however, to gain the certificate in Activity First Aid candidates must complete both units. Unit 2 is only open to those completing unit 1.

Unit 1 covers all of the subjects covered in the Emergency First Aid at Work course.

Unit 2 covers:

  • Bones, Joints and Muscle injuries
  • Head and Spinal injuries
  • Chest and Abdominal injuries
  • Specialised burn injuries
  • Eye injury
  • Poisoning
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Effects of Heat and Cold

Valid: 3 Years

Corporate Cost: £1600 + VAT for up to 12 candidates

Individual Cost: £160 + VAT

Annual Update – 3 Hours

The HSE STRONGLY RECOMMENDS that all First Aid certificate holders complete an annual skills update. This does not affect the certificate you already hold, however, with the constantly changing syllabus if skills are not updated regularly you or your staff could be using out of date knowledge and techniques when administering first aid. This is not a requirement, only a recommendation.

Emergency Response First Aid – 3 Hours

This course is for identified persons that do not need either the full or emergency First Aid qualification. Course content includes:

  • Arriving at the Scene
  • Primary Survey
  • Secondary Assessment
  • Resuscitation

Valid: 3 Years

Corporate Cost: £450 + VAT for up to 12 candidates

Individual Cost: £45 + VAT

Appointed Person – 2 Hours

This is a very basic course that covers only what is needed for the Emergency Services to act quickly and appropriately. Course content includes:

  • Legislation
  • Responsibilities
  • Action in an Emergency

Individual Cost: £30 + VAT

First Aid for Parents – 3 Hours

Written in-house specifically for Mums and Dads who want to know about how to look after their children when an emergency arises. Covering subjects such as Child CPR, Choking, Burns and Scalds, Wounds and Bleeding, Anaphylaxis, Chronic Medical Conditions and more, this course is for the peace of mind of all new parents without having to go through a more formal course.

Qualification: Non Accredited

Valid: No Timeline

Cost: £15 per person

Mini-Medics – 3 or 6 Hours

This is a very basic introduction to First Aid for all children. It is aimed at children between the ages of 8 and 11, but it can suit children of all ages. The course is kept at a very basic level with no confusing terminologies. At the very least, the child will be able to  make an effective call to the emergency services which could be enough to save someone’s life. Course content includes:

  • First Aid Kits
  • Recovery Position
  • CPR
  • Choking
  • Contacting the Emergency Services

Qualification: Non Accredited (a full colour certificate is included in the Mini-Medic book)
